Seemless, tiling texture / pattern Photoshop tutorial



Step 1: Find an image that you would like to make into a tiling background and import it into Photoshop. We used this one:

Step 2: Go to image, canvas size to take a peak at the dimensions of your image - remember them. Click cancel.

Step 3: Go to filter > other > offset. You need to enter numbers that are exactly one half of the width and height of your image. Since our original image was 150 px wide and 140 px high, we entered 75 and 70:

Now your image should look like it is spit into 4 sections. Use the patch tool to make selections where the seems are then drag that selection over a bit to get rid of the lines.

Once you've got it looking the way that you want it to, go to edit > define pattern, give it a name and click ok. Now you can fill anything with this pattern by going to edit > fill and selecting this pattern.
