This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to turn this image:
into this image:
1. Open the 'water drip' image in photoshop (just copy the above image)
2. liquifying image
•change BG layer to Pattern instead of the Default Background layer.
(this just saves headaches later on)
•Go to 'Pattern layer' and open the Liquify filter tool.
•This part is completely your preference. Do whatever you want to the image, just make sure to mess it up good:) The only requirement is to make sure the image fills the entire page.
** result (Here is what mine looked like after about a minute)

3. Create the complexity
•copy the liquified layer
•You now have 2 layers. The original and the copy.
•flip copied layer Horizontally.
•set the blending mode for you copied layer to Overlay.
•Make copies of your 2 layers and then merge the duplicates into one image.
(keeping your old layers is a good habit in case you would like to backtrack)
*step 3 result

There are thousands of different ways to change the look of this step. I usually use the options under Image/adjustments to get the colors the way I want.
4. Create the horizontal lines for the final image.
(this is a great trick. I use it constantly.)
• select the single row marquee tool (verticle). This is the first tool in the toolset(upper left corner:)
• select a row of pixels from you combined image layer (the duplicates you flattened)
• copy the one pixel selection and paste to a new layer above the pattern
• go to edit / transform / scale.
• stretch the one pixel selection to fill the page.
• I changed the blending mode to lighten for this layer and set the opacity to 30%
• the image will appear a little washed out. That's ok.
** result of stretching pixels

why do this?? using the one pixel selection makes sure that you are using all of the colors that are already in you image.
5. adding a gradient underneath.
• Create a layer underneath your pattern
• fill it with a gradient
• I chose a default gradient to put under the pattern

6. tying it together
• change the blending mode of the pattern layer to overlay
• add text and graphic lines to the image
